About the Author: Rohit Bhargava, author of Life Mantras—The Gateway of Success, One Life Many Shades, Rise in Love, was born in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh, India) and raised in the NCR region (India). He enjoys writing poems, short stories, and motivational quotes. Professionally, he works for a global corporation (Financial Planning and Analysis). He is a firm believer that writing is not only a creative way to express one’s emotions but also a creative way to broaden one’s horizon of thoughts.

Through his short story, The Joy of Helping Others, he hopes to convey the message that it is important to believe in yourself in any life’s circumstances. This will help you to face the challenges bravely. Life circumstances are constantly changing, both for the better and worse. Only the person who faces difficulties boldly finds himself the winner in the end.

The author has also emphasized the value of good deeds. He attempted to convey through the story that a person who is happy while helping others never lacks anything. Your deeds return to you in some form or another; hence, you should move ahead in life by doing good deeds. Just as the fragrance of flowers makes the surroundings pleasant, in the same way, a person who helps others brings a new enthusiasm into the lives of others.

Question – What inspired you to write The Joy of Helping Others?

Answer – The Joy of Helping Others shows the value of human emotions, kindness, adhering to life principles and the power of self-belief. In today’s world, all of these emotions are fading from our life. People are becoming indifferent and emotionless towards others. People have become self-centred in fulfilling their desires. The compassion we should have for others has been suppressed somewhere in today’s fast-paced and selfish lifestyle. This is what inspired me to write this story, in which I emphasise the value of relationships in human existence, the spirit of service in one’s mind, and keeping a positive attitude towards life when faced with difficult situations.

Question – Is the story based on real life or is it completely imaginary?

Answer – The story line and all the characters are framed and imagined. I started writing this story with a thought that if you have the support of your loved ones in life, then the biggest problems can be solved easily, no matter who the person is and what kind of person he is. Everyone needs help in difficult situations, whether they ask you for it or not. If your deeds are good then you will also get that help from somewhere or other during difficult times.

Question – How did you come up with the main character, Abhishek?

Answer – My mother passed away in 2021 during Covid. When I went to meet her in hospital, she held my hands tightly with her lifeless body as if she wanted to tell me something. But I was unable to hear or interpret her final words. That heinous scene hurts me even today. A mother’s absence from your life cannot be compensated for throughout your entire life, whether you are a little child or an adult. Through the character Abhishek, I attempted to demonstrate that life is meaningless without a mother. You try to isolate yourself from the rest of the world for a while. Your life loses direction. But this is life, and it will continue on forever. So, with your loved one’s memories, you continue to strive to fulfil any last wish they may have had. Abhishek’s character encourages us to move forward in life despite the ups and downs in life.

Question – What message do you want to give readers through this book?

Answer – This story emphasizes on moving forward in difficult times, never giving up, having positive feelings towards others and always doing good deeds. Through this story, I have tried to give this message to the society that the help you provide to someone now will benefit you in some way tomorrow. Our deeds always remain with us. They are not visible but their consequences have a deep impact on our lives. In this story, we see that Sakshi helps Abhishek, who is suffering from depression at one point of time, and later sees him as her life partner. The help given by Abhishek to Anurag during his difficult times and Anurag’s unwavering support helps Abhishek feel secure, confident and motivated during his bad phase of life. Rikku, without whom this story would not be complete, his personality shows how important proper guidance is in everyone’s life, which decides the direction of one’s future.

Question – Which character in the book is closest to your heart, and why?

Answer – All of the characters are important and equal in my opinion. There is no one character that is closer to my heart. All have strong bonds with one another, and they support one another silently when necessary. We can learn from Abhishek’s character that it’s preferable to keep going with the times rather than staying stagnant in difficult times. The paths are created on their own. Anurag teaches us that everything is possible if one has a strong desire to do something and gives it their all. Through Sakshi’s character, we learn that when life tests us, we can only pass with patience, sacrifice and determination. In which she appears to be successful. Everyone needs advice in life. The right path can change the direction of life. We see something similar in this story with Abhishek. Guruji character teaches us to be self-disciplined, patient, and confident in our deeds. The character of this story that we all find somewhere inside ourselves in the form of ‘Rikku’ strengthens the feeling of kindness, generosity and every possible help towards each other in life. So, if I had to choose one character, Rikku’s character is closest to my heart, inspiring and takes the emotions of humanity to its pinnacle.

Question – Do you believe that helping others really brings happiness in life?

Answer – There is a phrase that whatever you do, you will get in return according to your deeds. Try feeding an animal close to your house. You will notice love for you in its eyes. In return he will defend you and cherish you. Seeing all of this, I am sure that happiness in your mind and joy in life are waiting for you. You will feel as if you are having a good time, but this will be the result of your efforts to make others happy. This help does not need to be solely financial. It might be any kind. Your right guidance to others, compassion towards them is also a help. When you help others from the heart, you make a lifelong friend who will be the first to support you when the time comes. If this isn’t happiness, then what is it? This is the biggest joy in life that before sorrow surrounds you, your loved ones will be there to share it with you.

Question – How was your own childhood? Did it influence your writing in any way?

Answer – A writer’s writing reflects his or her life perspective. Whatever he sees in the world, he describes in his own words. This is also true for me. I believe in writing realistic stories that can inspire others. My childhood was spent amidst simplicity and struggles. My father always taught me that you cannot move forward in life without struggle. So, do not be afraid of struggles but face them bravely. You will get success one day. The second thing he advised me was that before demanding anything, I should consider whether or not I’m worthy of it. If not, you need first prove yourself worthy of it. His teachings had a profound impact on my life and as I grew up, I did not even realise when a simple boy transformed into a serious writer. Whatever I have seen, learnt and experienced in my life, I attempt to share it with others through stories. My aim is to leave my mark on people who are not avid readers. We can learn a lot from these short stories written in simple language that do not take much time to read.

Question – How long did it take you to complete this book?

Answer – I enjoy writing short stories as a hobby. Whenever I find time in my busy schedule, I write something, whether it’s short stories, poetry or motivational quotes. Just as a pot fills up drop by drop, my stories too get completed one day by writing little by little. Some stories take 3 to 4 years to complete, while others take less than a year. It depends on how much time I can spend to the story. It took me 9 months to compose ‘The Joy of Helping Others’, which began with the idea that if you have courage in life, you can deal with even the biggest challenges in life.

Question – What challenges did you face while writing this story?

Answer – As such, I did not face any such problem while writing this story. Although this is a fictional story, I have attempted to give it a realistic feel. In this short story, I merely wrote about what we all face in life. We realise that when we are surrounded by troubles in life and have the support of our loved ones, the hard times pass more easily. In today’s world, where the value of relationships is dwindling, this narrative reminds people of the power of mutual love, compassion and helping one other. It also emphasises the importance of companionship in our lives. If we have companionship, troubles are only in name.

Question – What role does spirituality and Guruji’s character play in the story?

Answer – It is stated that receiving the appropriate direction transforms one’s life path. It is as if big obstacles themselves disappear from the path. In today’s fast-paced and metropolitan world, we see that every second person is tense for some reason or the other and feels himself surrounded by problems. In this story, when Abhishek goes to Guruji’s ashram, he sees that only following the rules in life brings balance in your life and you are able to take right decisions in difficult situations. You do not even realize that crises come and go in your life because you feel capable of handling every situation.

Guruji fulfils the role of a mentor in this story, teaching his followers valuable life lessons. By following them, their followers who are already well-known figures in their industries, such as a doctor, engineer, chartered accountant, lawyer, scientist, or high-ranking government official, experience a transformation in their lives. As a result, people experience contentment, self-satisfaction, and calm in their lives while remaining clear of all negative ideas. When Abhishek follows Guruji’s path, he notices that the twisted threads in his life begin to unravel on their own, and he eventually finds himself successful again.

Question – Have you ever had a friend like Rikku in your own life?

Answer – A person who understands the problems of others is a better person. In this story, Rikku is one of those few people who come forward to help others in every possible way. That too without expecting anything in return. The company of such people not only gives inspiration in life but also teaches a lot. As far as I am concerned, I am still searching for such a friend in life who remains optimistic in life, supports me in all the happiness and sorrows, and helps me navigate life’s journey.

Question – Do you think today’s young generation can relate to this book?

Answer – I have written this book keeping the young generation in mind. Nowadays people’s thinking is limited to themselves only. In the form of a story, this book emphasizes on helping others, compassion, mutual love and trust in life. This book also gives the message to the new generation that your deeds remain with you and you get the fruits of them automatically when the time comes. Good and bad times will come and go in life and the support of your loved ones is also important in this. You can solve your own problems by being patience and self-confident. This story and its characters are both connected in such a way that it seems like a true incident that happened in someone’s life to the readers and they are able to relate to it well.

Question – What advice would you give to someone who is going through a difficult time in life?

Answer – As I previously stated, everyone’s life has its ups and downs. It is self-belief propels you forward as you face life challenges. In today’s urban and busy life, negativity rapidly takes over. You begin taking decisions in a rush, without thinking properly, without taking necessary advice, and without taking the time to consider the consequences, which are negative rather than positive. At such times, the support of your loved ones, self-belief, and ability to deal with problems will assist you get out of those difficult conditions. In addition, your past good deeds, which are never visible, remain with you, which in simple language we call it as lucky fortune. A person who takes others along with him in life apart from himself, never stays behind in life. People’s support and love always remains with him.

Question – What do you enjoy more—writing short stories, poems, or motivational quotes?

Answer – I like to take time out from my busy schedule and write short motivational stories. Reading them can bring a change in someone’s life. If this happens, I will consider myself very fortunate. As I mentioned in this story, it is not necessary to help someone only with money. Help can be given be given by giving right advice or writing something positive. I hope that my readers might learn something good in life from this book. This is the joy that I feel from within.

Question – What can we expect from you next? Are you working on any new book?

Answer – Yes, I am working on many such stories that will encourage people to think positively and move forward in life. My goal is to write short stories that people can read in a short time and learn something new.
