Hindi poetry is a type of literature that has been passed down through generations in India and is still popular even today. It is a unique form of expression that has evolved over time, and it has its own unique characteristics that make it stand out. This makes the poetry written not only beautiful but gives it an inherent meaning which becomes clear when the readers try to understand it closely. They experience the same effect when they read “Asha: Shabdo ki Abha” by Rajeev Ranjan Shukla. Through his poetry, while the author writes about different subjects at length, he also explores their relevance in life at large as he scores universal subjects and subjects having a validity that extends to human beings on the whole. The subjects he chooses are routine, part of any person’s life, and yet, they have beauty despite being ordinary.

In the initial phases of “Asha,” the poet explores his emotional connections with his parents, which later on extend to a larger level by connecting his ideas with nature as a whole. However, his poetry about nature is distinct as it expresses the other side of nature, which goes beyond praising its beauty. The author gives words to nature and shows how it has been at the receiving end of the actions of human beings in an attempt to make their lives more comfortable. The poetry here is strong, and provoking and instigates the readers to take action in order to work towards saving nature.

In other sections of the poetry collection, “Asha” talks about general subjects festivals, patriotism etc. These subjects give the poet the liberty to explore his creative side at length and experiment with his potential in writing poetry on different subjects. Based on this, his style oscillates between short and long form to extended and condensed stanzas. It is interesting to observe how, despite taking up different styles, the author still maintains the rhythmic flow and plays with words well to entertain as well as invoke different faculties of the readers. This makes “Asha” a collection of writing that will be enjoyed by people of different age groups. While for grown ups, the meaning of the poetry would be different, for younger readers it will carry an altogether different meaning. This beauty of carrying multiple meanings depending on the age groups reading gives “Asha” a distinctiveness and distinguishes it from the poetry written so far.

Reading poetry in “Asha” can be a great way to gain insight into the thoughts and feelings of others, and to understand the world around us better. Poetry in this collection offers a unique look into the inner workings of a person’s mind, often allowing the readers to connect with and better comprehend the events and emotions in the world around us. It can also provide them with a different perspective on life, helping us to see things from a different angle or to recognize the beauty in the small moments of life. Reading poetry in this collection can be a great way to gain a deeper appreciation for language and for the power of words, as well as to gain new insights into ourselves and into the greater world. Hence, recommending it to all readers would only imply giving more readers an opportunity to experience the perspectives of the author and see the world through his eyes.

“Asha” features a style of writing of Hindi poetry that is often quite lyrical and beautiful. Hindi poets often make use of clever wordplay and clever use of imagery to convey their message. The poet does the same by using a form of expression that is particularly effective in creating an atmosphere of beauty and awe in the reader. While this casts the readers in a world of wonder, it also entertains them while keeping them spellbound. This poetry collection is recommended to people who are interested in reading poetry that comes as a breath of fresh air and breathes life through the language it uses. The usage of the Hindi language in writing also gives the poetry collection a flavor of Indianness, which keeps the readers closely connected to their roots in addition to invoking the emotions of nostalgia.
