Chelsi Agarwal: “I have been inspired by many writers who excel in crafting compelling stories with rich, complex characters and emotional depth. A few who have particularly influenced my work include:

1.Jodi Picoult – Her ability to tackle difficult, often controversial subjects with sensitivity and insight has greatly inspired me. Her characters are always deeply human and relatable, and her stories provoke thought and discussion.

2.Gillian Flynn – Known for her gripping and dark psychological thrillers, Flynn’s work has shown me the power of creating suspense through complex, often flawed characters and unexpected twists.

3.Tana French – Her Dublin Murder Squad series is remarkable for its intricate plots and profound character studies. French’s attention to detail and her ability to create a vivid sense of place have greatly influenced my approach to setting and atmosphere.

4.Karin Slaughter – With her intense and often gritty storytelling, Slaughter’s novels are a masterclass in building tension and keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Her exploration of crime and its impact on individuals and communities is particularly inspiring.

5.Alice Sebold – The way Sebold combines lyrical prose with harrowing subject matter in books like ‘The Lovely Bones’ has deeply affected my writing style, encouraging me to blend beauty with darker themes.

These authors, among others, have shaped my understanding of what makes a story both engaging and emotionally resonant, and I continue to follow their work with great admiration.

Neel Preet: Which segment of readers is your primary target through this book of yours? And, how is your book relevant in the present day scenario?

Chelsi Agarwal: “’The Weight of Silence’ primarily targets readers who enjoy mystery and suspense, particularly those who appreciate stories with strong emotional and psychological components. This includes fans of domestic thrillers and literary fiction who are interested in character-driven narratives that explore complex family dynamics and personal struggles.

The book is highly relevant in the present-day scenario for several reasons. First, it addresses themes of communication and the consequences of silence, which are timeless and universally relatable. In today’s world, where people often struggle with expressing their true feelings and experiences, the book highlights the importance of speaking out and addressing difficult issues rather than keeping them hidden.

Additionally, the novel touches on the impact of trauma and the ways in which individuals and communities cope with crises. With the increasing awareness of mental health and the need for supportive communities, the book resonates with contemporary readers who are interested in these topics.

Finally, the book’s exploration of the resilience of the human spirit and the complexities of human relationships offers a poignant and hopeful message that is particularly relevant in times of uncertainty and change. By delving into these themes, ‘The Weight of Silence’ provides readers with both a gripping story and a deeper understanding of the human experience.”

Neel Preet: Is there any message that you would like to convey to your readers? Or any piece of advice, which you would like to give to the readers out there!

If there’s one piece of advice I could offer, it would be to never underestimate the importance of speaking your truth and listening to others. Silence can be heavy and isolating, but sharing your experiences and feelings can foster connection and healing. Whether it’s within your family, friendships, or community, open communication is essential for overcoming challenges and building stronger relationships.

Also, I encourage readers to embrace empathy and compassion. Every person carries their own struggles and stories, and approaching others with kindness can make a significant difference in their lives and in your own.
