Question – Can you please tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a writer?
Answer – I’m Diptarup Das, was born and brought up in Kolkata in a pure middle class Bengali family. Professionally I belong to a completely different pole as a statistical analyst in financial sector. My journey as a writer began back in school when I first started writing poetry in std. 7. Those early verses slowly grew into a deeper love for storytelling, and during my college days I began exploring fiction through short stories. Over the years, writing has become both a personal companion and a creative art for me — a way to capture emotions, experiences, and reflections, and share them with others.
Question – What first inspired you to start writing stories?
Answer – What first inspired me to write stories was the world of imagination I carried within me since childhood. While poetry helped me express emotions, stories gave me the freedom to create characters, situations, and journeys that went beyond myself. During college, I found inspiration in everyday people and experiences around me, which pushed me to put those ideas into words and shape them into stories.
Question – Your book Tales from Every Corner has 100 micro-fictions. Why did you choose this mirco story format?
Answer – I chose the micro-fiction format because I believe even the smallest slice of life can hold a complete story. In today’s world of reels and YouTube shorts, people’s patience for long narratives is gradually decreasing — they look for something short yet meaningful. Micro-stories fit perfectly into that space: they are quick to read but still capture emotions and experiences deeply enough to stay with the reader.
Question – How do you get new ideas for your stories? Do they come from real life or imagination?
Answer – My ideas come from a mix of real life and imagination. I observe people, situations, and emotions around me — small moments often spark a story. At the same time, my imagination takes those fragments and reshapes them into new worlds or unexpected twists. For me, writing is this continuous dance between reality and creativity, where everyday experiences meet the freedom of imagination.
Question – Which story from your book is closest to your heart, and why?
Answer – Ha ha ha!! Honestly, choosing just one story is nearly impossible. Each story in Tales from Every Corner holds a special place for me, and often I feel they’re in friendly competition with each other. Picking one keeps me awake at night — every piece carries emotions and moments that I’ve invested in, so it’s not just hard, it’s almost impossible to choose a favourite; I apologise..
Question – Did you face any challenges while writing this book?
Answer – Yes, there were challenges while writing Tales from Every Corner. One of the main difficulties was conveying a complete story in just a few lines without losing its emotional impact. Another challenge was keeping each piece fresh and unique while maintaining a cohesive tone throughout the book. It required a lot of focus, editing, and patience, but the process also made me grow as a writer and understand the true art of brevity
Question – Many of your stories talk about family, society, and technology. How important are these themes to you?
Answer – These themes are very close to my heart because they shape my own experiences and observations. Family dynamics, societal interactions, and the influence of technology constantly surround me, and I often find stories hidden in these everyday moments. Writing about them ease my accomplishment and allows me to reflect on these realities, explore human emotions, and connect with readers through situations they recognize, all within the brevity of micro-fiction.
Question – You balance your professional career and creative side very well. How do you manage both?
Answer – Balancing a professional career and my creative side is all about discipline and making writing a part of my daily routine. I treat my creative time as essential, not optional — even small pockets of time can be enough to jot ideas or polish stories. Writing also becomes a way to recharge and reflect, which in turn helps me stay focused in my professional life. For me, the two sides complement each other rather than compete.
Question – Who are the authors or storytellers that inspire you the most?
Answer – I’m always inspired by writers like Samaresh Majumdar and O. Henry for their mastery of short stories, and in stories, authors like Lydia Davis, Smaranjit Chakraborty and Sunil Gangopadhyay have greatly influenced me. I also admire storytellers who capture everyday life with sensitivity — they motivate me to observe, imagine, and write honestly
Question – What message do you want readers to take away from your book?
Answer – Through Tales from Every Corner, I hope readers experience the power of small moments and stories. Even brief snapshots of life can hold deep emotions, provoke thought, or spark reflection. My aim is to remind readers that every corner of life — ordinary or unexpected — has a story worth noticing, and that sometimes, the smallest narratives can leave the biggest impact.
Question – How do you feel about publishing your work with Evincepub Publishing?
Answer – Publishing my work with Evincepub Publishing has been a very positive experience. As a writer, it’s encouraging to work with a team that values creativity and gives space to new voices. It’s been both a learning experience and a proud milestone in my journey.
Question – What was the most memorable feedback you received from a reader?
Answer – One of the most memorable pieces of feedback I received was from a reader who said that a very short story in my book stayed with them for days, making them reflect on their own life and relationships.
Question – Do you think micro-fiction is becoming more popular in today’s fast world?
Answer – Absolutely. In today’s fast-paced world, people often have less time and patience for long narratives, and that’s where micro-fiction fits perfectly. Just like short reels or YouTube shorts capture attention quickly, micro-stories deliver impactful emotions and ideas in a concise format. I think this format is gaining popularity because it respects readers’ time while still offering meaningful, thought-provoking content.
Question – What advice would you give to young writers who are just starting their journey?
Answer – My advice to young writers would be to write consistently and observe the world around you. Don’t be afraid to experiment with styles, genres, or formats — every story you write teaches you something. Read widely, stay curious, and most importantly, simply write with honesty and passion. Hence, keep writing.
Question – Finally, what can readers expect next from you? Are you working on a new project?
Answer – I’m always exploring new ideas and experimenting with formats. Currently, I’m working on a new fictional project inspired by data science and machine learning, blending technology with imaginative storytelling.
