Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal at the 12th IBA World Boxing Championship just days after the Indian men’s badminton team made history by defeating Indonesia in the Thomas Cup 2022 final. Zareen overcame Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas in the 52kg division to earn the top prize at the event in Istanbul, while the Telangana-born boxer dominated the tournament with back-to-back amazing performances.

Zareen, 25, has joined a long list of Indian boxing superstars who have won gold for India at World Championships, including Mary Kom, Lekha KC, Sarita Devi, and Jenny RL.

PM Narendra Modi, joining the chorus of joyful Indians, sent a message of congratulations to the Indian fighter for her “amazing” victory. “Our boxers have earned our admiration! Congratulations to @nikhat zareen on winning the Women’s World Boxing Championship gold medal. In the same tournament, I congratulate Manisha Moun and Parveen Hooda on their Bronze medals “Modi used Twitter.

Zareen won gold in the 52kg category, while Manisha Moun and Parveen Hooda took bronze in the 57kg and 63kg categories, respectively.
